Cookie and storage policy

A plain-language account of the browser storage and cookies currently used by SpeciesWatch.

Last updated: August 21, 2026

Current use

SpeciesWatch currently saves the selected light, dark or system theme in local browser storage. The consent panel also stores your Necessary, Analytics and Marketing choices under specieswatch-consent-v1 so the question is not repeated on every page. Both records are functional browser preferences.

Categories

Necessary covers interface preferences, security and reliable delivery and cannot be disabled. Analytics would cover audience measurement, but no analytics provider is active. Marketing would cover advertising and related measurement, but no advertising provider or marketing tracker is active. Disabled categories cannot create requests.

Cookies and infrastructure

The application does not currently set advertising or audience-measurement cookies. Hosting, security or network providers may use strictly necessary cookies or similar technical mechanisms to deliver traffic safely and prevent abuse.

Managing and withdrawing choices

Use the permanent Privacy choices control or the Footer link to reject, accept or revise available options. You can also remove local storage and cookies through browser settings; doing so resets the question and interface preferences.

Future advertising or analytics

Before activating Google AdSense, analytics or another non-essential service, this page, providers and purposes will be updated. In AdSense mode, Google’s certified CMP will replace the local panel and manage advertising consent, IAB TCF signals and revocation; both banners will never be shown together.
