What we monitor
SpeciesWatch follows a curated catalogue of species across IUCN risk categories, population direction, known threats, field recordings and georeferenced occurrence records.
What we monitor
Living map layers add recent satellite fire detections, ocean observations and representative protected-area records so readers can examine environmental pressure alongside species context.
How we work
The project prioritizes free and open sources, documents important limits beside each visualization and keeps editorial interpretation separate from automatically refreshed data.
Counts describe the SpeciesWatch collection or a named cached feed—not every assessed species, fire or protected place on Earth. Every major claim should remain traceable to a source or methodology note.
Publisher and editorial responsibility
SpeciesWatch.io is an independent educational and editorial project operated from Romania. It is published by the SpeciesWatch Editorial Desk, which is responsible for selection, synthesis, corrections and the visible separation of editorial material from automated source feeds.
Questions, documented corrections and rights notices reach the responsible desk at contact@specieswatch.io. The Editorial Policy describes review and correction standards; Media Credits records the provenance and reuse terms of displayed media.
Funding and independence
The project is currently developed independently and uses free or openly accessible data sources. Source providers do not approve or control SpeciesWatch conclusions.
If advertising is introduced after review, it will be labelled and separated from editorial decisions. Advertising will not determine which species are covered, how risk is described or whether a correction is published.
